Jay Baba Lokenath

Yogi Lokenath

Conjectural Lifetime : 1730 AD to 1890 AD

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Great Yogi Lokenath Brahmachary was born in “Janmashtami Tithi” at the month of August, presumably in 1730 at Village: Chaurasi Chakla (Kochua), District: Jessore, State: Bengal  in undivided India (presently in Barasat, District: North 24 Parganas, West Bengal in modern India) as Lokenath Ghosal in a devout family of father Harinarayan (alias Ramnarayan) Ghosal and mother Kamaladevi.

At age of eleven he was conferred to initiation of Brahmin (UPANAYAN) and handed over to preceptor Bhagaban Ganguli for initiation of principle and to be driven into asceticism. He quit house, forsake family members and come to Kalighat with preceptor. He was also accompanied by child age companion Benimadhav. The preceptor taught various kinds of Yoga to both of the disciples. Later on they traveled and trekked many places of Himalayas and finally arrived at Himadri range to perform hard asceticism. In strict pursuit of asceticism he passed life for long years and finally received attainment. Later on they traveled many countries over the world to enrich knowledge in various aspects of theology. They traveled Mecca, Madina and afterwards, on arrival at Kabul they received hospitality at the house of Mollah Sadee and Lokenath recited Quran Sharif to let him hear.

After completing world tour they returned to native land and separated from each other. Benimadhav departed for Kamakshya Dham and Lokenath came down to village Baradi at Narayanganj district in Bengal in undivided India (presently in Bangladesh).

Gradually he started gaining many followers for his remedial spiritual work for people and received overwhelming acclamation from them. Later on his life he became famous as LOKENATH BABA with many more followers and had his monastery (LOKENATH BABA ASHRAM) at Baradi.

He gave up his last breath presumably in 1890 after passing supposed to be a long journey of life. There is no Enchantment, Spell or Incantation after his name as it was forbidden by his order. Only the remembrance of name “LOKENATH” is happened to be prevailed for ever.
